Big Lots, Not-So-Little Confessions

hey again!

trying to keep my blog afresh, ’cause i know people get tired of looking at the same old thing when/if they come to visit. you know how it is, house guests and fish and your blog … they all start to stink after 3 days. haha.

ANYways, went on a mini-FAG trip the other night. i LOVE those, btw. usually when we go FAGing, it’s an ordeal. in a good way. we load ourselves up in the FAGmobile and drive to some gawd-forsaken little texas hole in the wall … or maybe a not-so-little-hole. either way, we’re gone for the day and down for the count.

so earlier this week, we did a mini-FAG outing one evening. we had a very simple plan: big lots and then to el chico. or casa el chico as jannetta called it. she was just a little confused at which particular mexican restaurant we landed. had NOTHING to do with margaritas …

back to big lots. they had their christmas stuff marked 90% off. i was NOT in the mood to buy cmas decorations … i barely have everything cleared out of my house from the holidays. but when it hit me how MUCH 90% off really IS, well, i couldn’t resist. i mean, it was practically FREE. it would’ve been a SIN not to buy at those prices. a HUGE sin. and believe me, i know sin. i was raised on it.

so i found a buggy (shopping cart for you yankees) and started loading up. huge ornaments for 40 cents, packages of miniature ornaments for 20 cents, strands and strands and strands of gold beads for 20 cents. snowman boxes and tins … ohmygawd. i couldn’t stop. at 90% off … whatcha gonna do?!?!

okay, so my pics are below. also got a bag of lay’s bbq potato chips which is apropos to nothing. except they were on sale too. but not 90% off.

we did have a great time at casa el chico. haha. our server, cando (which being spanish-challenged, we thought was “can-do” … like he’s a “can-do!” sort of guy) was wonderful and spoke lovely spanish to us, though we didn’t understand a lick of it.

good friends, good food, good bargains, good times. good medicine for all of us, as always.

adorable miniature ornaments, different colors and clear ... just imagine the possibilities, esp at 20 cents per pkg!!

in case you can't tell, these are HUGE-GIGANTIC ornament balls. about the size of bowling balls, 40 cents each. may pull a vintagesue and paint them and then fire up the glue gun ...

belton beauties and a box from ben

hey y’all!

am finally starting to feel like a human bean again. was yucky sick for over 2 weeks … but y’all don’t wanna hear about that.

missed out on a fantastic FAG trip this weekend. they went to fredricksburg for the trade days (sans their head FAG, moi). just wasn’t feeling up to that much shopping. my spirit was willing … flesh was weak.

however, i did make it out to belton for the city-wide garage sale. kinda crowdy, but worth it! SCORE!! a VERY sweet vintage white wicker sofa and rocker, an old screen door, painted pink and backed with an old white lacy tablecloth (adorable!!), a yum-yum-yummy vintage pink chenille bedspread (all from the same vendor … a kind and gentle couple from evant who gave me a steal-of-a-deal on the lot) … and four little vintage aprons, two pink/pink with roses and two turquoise lovelies from some dude with a middle-eastern accent. whatsup with that?! oh well, only in america.

quick “hubby” story before the pics. a couple of weekends ago, ben and i were on our way home from a restaurant. as we looped around a busy intersection, i noticed a box in the street. it was partially torn open and had what appeared to be plates falling out of it. naturally, i thought we’d turn around and check it out. naturally, i was wrong … because ben was driving. and he stops for nothing. not even for alleged roadside treasures.

was a little miffed, but also a little too sick to argue my case. got home, went to bed, forgot about it.

the next morning, my sweet hubby went to the pharmacy to get my medication. when he came home, he was lugging a heavy, torn-apart box and sporting a “look what i got, mommy!” expression on his face. he plopped it down on my dining table (yikes!) and immediately, i knew what it was … and what he’d done.

how SWEET is that?!! good job, benjamin! i love you for that. for endangering your life (!!) in that busy intersection to get those silly plates because it’d make me happy … for all the times you go out of your way to make me happy. you’re the best.

btw, the plates were obviously headed to the hotel/restaurant at that intersection. they were just plain, white, service-industry 5″ plates … 25 of them that weren’t broken. but i can use them for crafts. and if i can’t, i betcha i know who can (hi sue!).

okay, on to da pics! lots of ’em this time. and in order to expedite this process, not all of them will have captions. so i hope you did your homework and read every word of my blog. haha.
