love this little sign ... a gift from jannetta ... so sweet!

hey y’all!

rather quiet lately on the junking front. stayed home this past weekend to recover from trade days (see previous blog) and did nothing but rest and enjoy some time with my hubby. admittedly, i was sorely tempted to sneak out to a yard sale or two. i even checked craigslist and the local classifieds a couple of times (okay, maybe more like 6 or 8 times).

but alas and alack, i did NOT junk (a moment of silence).

we addicts (and you know who you are) have a difficult time saying no to a yard sale or estate sale or a good flea market. there’s always the possibility of missing that perfect treasure at a perfect price. a treasure AND a bargain?! v. damn difficult to pass up.

but i needed to rest last weekend. i needed to rest my body, my mind, my soul and of course, my wallet. and i’m glad i did. i rediscovered my patio and the gorgeous spring colors blooming all around me. i watched the birds eating from the new feeders i put out (funny how they fight each other for that birdseed … like it’s steak or something).

i even rediscovered some old junk (and not-so-old junk) that i’ve been meaning to repurpose, re-do, re-create into something lovely, charming and useful. with any luck. more on that in future blogs.

anyways, i took some pics for you … in an attempt to capture the colors and beauty of my potted flowers, newly blooming rose bushes (LOVE my roses!) and other plants around my patio and porch. i hope you enjoy them as much as i do … and that you’ll consider slowing down for just a while.

and smell. the. roses.

terry lee

easter-terrylee-1964

hey y’all!

it’s easter weekend and this is the first time in almost 30 years that i haven’t made easter baskets for my children. i mean, does a package of reese’s peanut butter cup eggs count for anything? that and some other bags of candy i hastily bought at target last night. it’s not that i didn’t WANT to make baskets, it’s just the old “my spirit is willing but the flesh is weak” thing goin’ on.

don’t mean to sound sacrilegious, but for me, this wasn’t exactly a “holy” week. it was more like “holy hell” week. feel free to stand clear of me … wouldn’t want the lightning strike to hit you too. 😉

ANYway, in addition to all the humdrum daily routine business this week, i also spent HOURS and HOURS on the phone with incompetent service representatives (i won’t name names, but their initials are TXU) and with banks getting mortgage refinancing options. the latter being a fricking full-time job by itself.

ALSO, i had a crew tearing up my backyard most of the week. okay, actually they were filling in my old, useless, eyesore of a pool … a dream of mine that was a long time coming. i took pics of the fill-in progress and the finished product.

however, unless you saw the pool before (something only my inner circle of peeps have experienced … and you know who you are, OR you’re a nosy neighbor … and you know who YOU are), then you probably won’t or can’t fully appreciate the “after” pics.

still. i’m gonna share them with you. after all the crap i’ve been through this week from hell, this is my reward. i have grandiose plans of a lush garden retreat (think english country) with rose bushes, flowers that attract butterflies, a birdbath (a nod to the once-upon-a-time pool), vintage cement statues, a gazebo (after i win the lottery) and a lovely sitting area.

for now, i have “planted” a single pink metal flower smack in the center of the pool (i need to stop calling it that) as a promise, a hope of what is to come. what will be. and besides, it’s cute and makes me smile. 🙂

i hope you all have a blessed easter and find something to give you hope. and peace.

love and hugs,
terrylee

thanks-santa

hey y’all,

i really goofed with my last blog. shortly after it hit the press, my dear, sweet hubby informed me that i had failed to mention the absolutely WONDERFUL christmas gift that he gave me … a way cool printer/scanner/copier/fly me to the moon machine … which is HOW i am now able to scan and upload those great vintage family photos that i shared with y’all.

how could i have been so remiss?! old age. chemo-brain. teenager-induced ssstresss. people in wal-mart. any number of excuses. i’m SOOO sorry, sweetie pie. i LOVE my new toy. but i love you more. how’s that? 😉

anyways, on to the pics … some of my other christmas presents (not everything, so stay tuned), some of this and that.

happy weekend!

love and hugs,
terry lee

heavy old clock i found at the GW barn a long time ago. it worked, but didn't like that it was all goldtone. FINALLY painted the floral part, numbers and hands pink, glued an old fork and spoon on it (it's in the kitchen) and a castoff earring at the bottom.

Hi again!

I’ve had this discussion with my junkin’ buddies, and with some of you bloggers, but here we go again.

HUSBANDS.

Let me preface by saying I absolutely adore mine. I love him to death. And no, I have no (current) plans to poison him with arsenic. 😉

But I bought this GORGEOUS crinoline petticoat from vintage Sue last week. And, not ever having an original idea of my own, I borrowed one from Sue, thinking it’d look PERFECT over a lampshade in our bedroom.

Giddy with excitement, I brought it home and slipped it over the shade of our floor lamp, which stands behind our bed (great for our nightly reading). Voila! It instantly transformed the drab, white Wal-Mart lamp into a romantic, Victorian-esque piece.

And that was just the beginning. Visions of pink ribbons and bows, pearls and other bling danced in my silly head.

So I’m lying in bed, half-dreading, half-anticipating with girlish excitement my hubby’s arrival. He goes about his usual routine and doesn’t even notice the lamp for a few minutes. Then when he does, he honestly thinks it’s a JOKE!

He laughs, and says, “You’re kidding, right?!”

“No, I’m not kidding. Isn’t it beautiful?”

“Honeeeey, you can’t be serious. It’s so big and it blocks my reading light. Please take it down.”

Okay, this is where I get a little touchy, because a few weeks ago, I finally took down a lovely pink windchime that was hanging below the ceiling fan in our bedroom. Hubby complained constantly about it … not so much about the sweet tinkling sound it made, but because he ran into it several times each night as he trekked back and forth to the restroom (that’s another story).

So I’m starting to feel sorry for myself … can’t I have anything I like in this bedroom?! This is where I inform him (having read Emily Post, et al) that it’s “tradition” for the bedroom to be decorated for the WOMAN.

Apparently, he hadn’t read the book.

“It doesn’t block your reading light!”, I continue in defense of the crinoline.

He lies down and of course, his head is right under the crinoline. I have to admit, it does look pretty comical.

And then I suddenly remember this is the man who stayed by my side in the hospital for days on end, putting Blistex on my lips and ice chips in my mouth when I couldn’t do it for myself. He’s the man who helped me to the bathroom when I was too weak to make it alone … and he’s the one who still pampers and spoils me, even though I can pretty much take care of myself again.

So against my vintage, romantic decorating instincts, I acquiesce and remove the crinoline in deference to my sweet hubby’s desires.

Then I promptly re-hang the windchime. All is fair in love and war.

I did take some pics of the crinoline-attired lamp. It’s lovely, as you will see. As I was snapping pictures of it, hubby walks in and just shakes his head.

When I asked him how he’d feel if I painted the lamp pink (a healthy compromise, I thought), he said, “Geeeeez, honey. Next thing I know, you’ll be cutting off my balls, painting them pink and putting them on the internet.”

“Great idea!” I reply. “But I think I’d rather keep them attached.”

Flat or semi-gloss? 🙂

Enjoy the pics!
