Hey again!

With my youngest’s birthday fast approaching (he’ll be 15 next week!), my thoughts have turned to what matters most in life … family, friends, health and happiness. So with that in mind, I made a little slideshow to share with you.

Hope you enjoy.

Hey again!

I know it’s hot as hades right now (at least it is in the armpit … I mean … HEART of Texas). Who wants to think about snuggling up with a cozy afghan next to the fireplace?

With my hot flashes, not me. But I’ve been wanting to share this special treasure with y’all since I started this blog. I’ve had so much else going on (what with husband-bashing and all) that this is the first chance I’ve had.

Back in February, I believe (memory’s a bitch since chemo and anesthesia!), I was visting my sister in Fort Worth (hi Belinda!). She took me to an AWESOME antique mall with a very quaint little tea room called The Secret Garden.

After having our own little “sister tea party” of quiche and fruit and tiny muffins (and of course, tea!), we started browsing the aisles and aisles (and aisles!) of treasures. Oh my. I was in heaven. Too bad I didn’t take any pictures that day … sorry.

However, I did find the most gorgeous afghan in the world. The WHOLE wide world. I was walking by this booth, and something pink caught my eye (as always). It was tucked waaaay under something else and all I could manage to see was a single pink crocheted rose.

By this time, my spider senses were tingling. I gently (or maybe not-so-gently, now that I think about it) removed the crap on top of my buried treasure … and oh.my.gawd. There it was. The most beautiful creature I’d ever seen … other than my three children. 🙂 I won’t even try to describe the afghan … because the pictures pretty much do it justice.

I knew it was mine before I ever saw the price tag. I was thrilled to discover it was only $25!!! But then something made the entire experience even better. My sister walked up and took it from me.

“Let me buy this as your birthday present.”

So, being the good little sister that I am, I let her. 🙂 My birthday wasn’t until April, but I got to take it home with me and start enjoying it immediately. Thanks, Belinda!

Where did I put the lovely? I draped it over my bed’s headboard. And no, hubby didn’t like it. Kept bumping his pillows on it, which caused it to fall over on his head in the middle of the night. Did I mention that this afghan is unusually heavy? It is. So far, no concussions or asphyxiations.

I suppose I could go on and on (verbosity runs in my family … my mother’s side), but I’ll spare you anymore pain. Enjoy the pics!!!

To DIE for vintage crocheted afghan ... it has 70 pink roses on it. count 'em! my sister bought it for my birthday in april (but i picked it out!)

Hey y’all!

Lots happening in my world lately. Had a great 5 week checkup (post hysterectomy) and was cleared to do “all the shopping” I wanted. Or at least that’s what the doctor said … ask my hubby and you’ll probably get a different response.

Sooooo, while in Temple for my doctor’s appt, I barnstormed the GW bargain barn. Woohoo! Spent a grand total of $10 and got lots o’ loot! Pictures below.

Am in the process of getting new flooring in my house and it seems we’re hitting speed bumps at every corner. I’m reserving judgment on Home Depot until the project is complete. Stay tuned for my verdict.

With that said, I am supposed to be clearing things out of the house and garage, instead of buying more stuff. Yikes. Hubby thinks I’ve gone off the deep end with my junk shopping, but I’m growing weary of discussing his issues. 😉

ANYways, in an effort to clear out the garage so we’ll have some storage space for the furniture during the flooring installation (got all that?), I had an impromptu mini-yard sale Saturday morning (yes, I obtained the obligatory city permit … thanks, City of Killeen for the $5 charge). I missed the copy deadline for the classified ad, but sweet-talked a young man named Rodney into accepting my order anyway.

The upshot is, we cleared out/sold a lot of old junk (which hubby was kind enough to remind me that I had bought at other yard sales) … and so now we have some breathing room in our garage.

We’ll see how long that lasts …

Okay, enough drivel. Enjoy the pics!

Hi again!

I’ve had this discussion with my junkin’ buddies, and with some of you bloggers, but here we go again.

HUSBANDS.

Let me preface by saying I absolutely adore mine. I love him to death. And no, I have no (current) plans to poison him with arsenic. 😉

But I bought this GORGEOUS crinoline petticoat from vintage Sue last week. And, not ever having an original idea of my own, I borrowed one from Sue, thinking it’d look PERFECT over a lampshade in our bedroom.

Giddy with excitement, I brought it home and slipped it over the shade of our floor lamp, which stands behind our bed (great for our nightly reading). Voila! It instantly transformed the drab, white Wal-Mart lamp into a romantic, Victorian-esque piece.

And that was just the beginning. Visions of pink ribbons and bows, pearls and other bling danced in my silly head.

So I’m lying in bed, half-dreading, half-anticipating with girlish excitement my hubby’s arrival. He goes about his usual routine and doesn’t even notice the lamp for a few minutes. Then when he does, he honestly thinks it’s a JOKE!

He laughs, and says, “You’re kidding, right?!”

“No, I’m not kidding. Isn’t it beautiful?”

“Honeeeey, you can’t be serious. It’s so big and it blocks my reading light. Please take it down.”

Okay, this is where I get a little touchy, because a few weeks ago, I finally took down a lovely pink windchime that was hanging below the ceiling fan in our bedroom. Hubby complained constantly about it … not so much about the sweet tinkling sound it made, but because he ran into it several times each night as he trekked back and forth to the restroom (that’s another story).

So I’m starting to feel sorry for myself … can’t I have anything I like in this bedroom?! This is where I inform him (having read Emily Post, et al) that it’s “tradition” for the bedroom to be decorated for the WOMAN.

Apparently, he hadn’t read the book.

“It doesn’t block your reading light!”, I continue in defense of the crinoline.

He lies down and of course, his head is right under the crinoline. I have to admit, it does look pretty comical.

And then I suddenly remember this is the man who stayed by my side in the hospital for days on end, putting Blistex on my lips and ice chips in my mouth when I couldn’t do it for myself. He’s the man who helped me to the bathroom when I was too weak to make it alone … and he’s the one who still pampers and spoils me, even though I can pretty much take care of myself again.

So against my vintage, romantic decorating instincts, I acquiesce and remove the crinoline in deference to my sweet hubby’s desires.

Then I promptly re-hang the windchime. All is fair in love and war.

I did take some pics of the crinoline-attired lamp. It’s lovely, as you will see. As I was snapping pictures of it, hubby walks in and just shakes his head.

When I asked him how he’d feel if I painted the lamp pink (a healthy compromise, I thought), he said, “Geeeeez, honey. Next thing I know, you’ll be cutting off my balls, painting them pink and putting them on the internet.”

“Great idea!” I reply. “But I think I’d rather keep them attached.”

Flat or semi-gloss? 🙂

Enjoy the pics!

The weekend is over already?!

Well, at least I was strong enough to get out of the house and actually DO SOME JUNKING/SHOPPING/ANTIQUING!! Woohoo!!!

And I’m driving again (don’t tell my doc, who I THINK told me to wait 6 weeks!) which made it a helluva lot easier to do the whole shopping thing. I appreciate my sweet hubby, who in his defense, did chauffeur me around to the Goodwill, Crafter’s and Sal-Army whenever I felt up to it.

My dear friend Bonnie and I schlepped over to Lampasas … she had found a great little thrift store she wanted to share with me. Of course we couldn’t leave Cove without stopping by Sue’s booth at Crafter’s first. By the end of the day, I was exhausted, but happy with the treasures that I brought home.

I’ll let my pics do the rest of the talking. Enjoy!

Hi again!

Not much happening in my world today. Just had a nice chat with my hubby and now he’s off to watch sports or some other gawd-awful thing on television.

Won’t write much because I have lots of pics I want to post today. As they say, pictures are worth a thousand words … and even more when you add captions! 🙂

As promised, here are some pics of my treasure finds at Sue’s booth on Friday (sorry to make you work so hard, Sue!) … also some other random pics! Enjoy!

Lovelies from Sue ... thank you!!!

Lovelies from Sue ... thank you!!!

Happy Friday!

First, I’d like to say a GREAT BIG THANK YOU to Sue! She left a little goodie bag at Crafter’s for me, which I picked up today. I couldn’t wait to get home and open it up. Lots and lots of sweet, adorable notions that I will one day use in my projects.

I was soooo excited about everything and wanted to share Sue’s sweet “pay it forward” spirit with you. So I arranged everything on my table and took a picture (see above)! What fun! Thanks Sue. Great to see you at the barn today, too!

Speaking of the barn, I usually try to “barnstorm” (that’s what I call swooping into the GW bargain barn) every weekend. I didn’t get anything today because I had with me:

A. My 14 year old son, who was complaining of the heat (okay, so it’s like 130 degrees inside the barn)

B. My husband … who after rifling through the books for 10 minutes, was sitting in the car waiting not-so-patiently for me to “FINISH UP IN THERE ALREADY.”

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about junk/antique/vintage/(insert your fave kind of stuff here) shopping, it’s this: Do not, under any circumstances, take your husband or children with you. That is, if you want to have any fun whatsoever.

Okay, I realize it’s sometimes necessary to have smaller kids in tow (hi Sue!). It’s just that life is ever so much easier, sans children and husbands, when you’re doing serious junking.

Even though I didn’t pick up anything at the barn, I did find some darling treasures at Sue’s booth today. Oh.My.Gawd. I got several of her creations and I am so excited to have them! Haven’t taken pics yet … but I will tomorrow and promise to post them immediately. Stay tuned!

For now, here are yet some more random pics from my home collection.
