hey y’all!
hope this finds everyone all “loved up” after valentine’s day. don’t get me wrong, i believe in love and all, but something about v-day just seems so contrived, materialistic … it’s retail-craziness.
i was in wal-mart the other day (i know, it was against my better judgment … but i pre-medicated myself … thank god for valium and the like … haha!). anyway, i kept passing the dreaded “valentine aisle”. everytime i’d go by, i could feel my heart (the dreaded PVCs for you fellow medical-types) fluttering and my respiratory rate would increase (aka hyperventilation).
let’s be clear about this. it wasn’t because i was excited by the lovely walmart merchandise … it had something to do with the overwhelming commercialism of it all. and possibly all the other last minute shoppers crowding the aisle.
anyway, i managed ONE pass through the aisle. not that i was planning to buy much. i was (blatantly proud) MAKING valentines this year. but how the hell do you make chocolate?!
anyway, by the time i made it to the end of the aisle, i truly was hyperventilating and had broken out in a complete flop sweat. i was drenched. i think i had hives. so much for pre-medication. no amount of valium or ativan could touch my wal-mart-itis. none.
okay, i’ve digressed. here we go. i grabbed some bags of chocolate and made straight for the checkout. but before i did, a fellow disgruntled shopper made a comment to no one in particular. “this is all a bunch of sh*t.”
yikes! what a comment! but i couldn’t have agreed more. i was in a bit of a mood, so i replied, “i know. i agree. i just want to shove all this candy off the shelves and pull down that damn valentine sign.” (the one advertising LOVE/candy/valentine teddy bears and the like, hanging from the ceiling).
i think i scared her off.
but back to handmade valentines. that’s what i wanted to share with you. i did decide to make valentines this year. one for the love of my life, ben (dear, long-suffering, enduring husband o’ mine), one for my precious beautiful daughter tara, and then one for each of the beloved FAGs (if you don’t know who they are, then you haven’t been paying attention! see previous blogs).
i think they all turned out well. i’m not that crafty … i call myself a craft impersonator. but they all seemed to like them (or at least they had the good grace to pretend they did).
i’m also including some pics from a recent trip to burnet. was supposed to be a FAG trip, but only 2/3 of us were able to make it. but on we went. found some really terrific treasures. read captions for more info.
enjoy the show.
stay loved, stay well.

okay, the rest of the pics are from a recent jaunt to burnet with bonnie (2/3 of the FAGs … jannetta couldn’t make it). most of the treasures are from the knothole. some killer stuff!
and now the piece de resistance of my treasures: a circa 1915 satellite adjustable table co. typing table!
